A little about me
You know, honestly? The thing with Vivziepop’s shows are like…a massive mixed bag for me. You know that both of the shows are 18+, meant for adults, but the whole energy of the shows and everything about it literally screams that it’s supposed to be meant for teens.
In fact, I’m sure that the crew even understand that teens are watching it. It’s kind of hard to prevent teens from watching it cause you can’t really control what other people do or see.
But this narrative that people are spinning where they’re acting like these shows are mature and taking things very seriously is like….how. We literally saw Hazbin’s pilot, we saw Helluva boss’s episodes….
Helluva Boss is the equivalent of watching fucking Happy Tree Friends with a few Family Guy curse words to boot
It’s like shows on Adult swim, which are targeted towards Adults, but teens are just going to end up watching it anyways
It’s like people want to get mad at these teens for watching this show but don’t want to acknowledge how much teen bait the shows actually are. Saying that it’s “18+” doesn’t stop it from looking like Demon Family Guy. Like.
The only thing you can do with this is make said teens avoid YOUR blog if you don’t want them there. Shaming them or getting harsh at them for even watching the show is like? Why are we pretending like we never watched an adult show when we were younger? You trying to tell me that you turned those off as soon as they aired?
You may not want teens to be here, but you can’t stop them from being here. All you can do is block them from coming to your blog

To me, the biggest problem with Hazbin is that Viv's trying to tell a deep story about addiction, trauma and unhealthy relationships and most of the crew aren't taking it seriously at all. I'm not saying that the animators, storyboard artists, etc. shouldn't be allowed to have fun with the characters, but when half the crew are acting like horny fangirls for the show they're helping to create, it's a problem.
critical-hazbin answered:
You’re absolutely right. The immaturity of this staff is really disappointing. They are professional artists and should act like it. Viv (I think) has the right idea about telling Angel’s story, but it’s being undermined by her own crew.
I could hardly believe that a certain person at Spindle/horse was actively interacting with a canon character in Hazbin and shipping herself with him, especially since he’s an abusive pimp. It just sends all the wrong messages about abuse and undermines any ability to take this story seriously. There’s a huge difference between having fun (drawing fanart, maybe writing fanfic under a different name) and inserting yourself into a story to woobify an abuser. Not to mention the other person romanticizing Angel’s assault on the staff.
I forget who it was that said it, but another critical said “this feels like the most public fanwork ever created” and it’s so true. The ratio of fan content to actual canon content is definitely not helping here.
Sucks because h3lluv4 seems like the show I’d like a lot more than h4zbin. It’s got a smaller cast, it’s episodic with short simple plots and a cute mushy couple what’s not to love? It’s like they gave them only the best tropes and they still somehow managed to fuck it up.
the thing about the “oh of course fandom gravitates towards pretty white boys & ignores female characters and characters of color and especially female characters of color, it’s the creators’ fault because they don’t give those characters any depth/plot relevance!!!” argument is that it’s just….. not true. sure there are lots of shows where that happens but there are also LOTS where it doesn’t and fandoms still behave exactly the same. it doesn’t matter how prominently the creators place women of color, because you all will still fight to ignore them at any cost in favor of white men. despite what you might think from looking at tumblr, prominent & complex main characters of color exist–& in tons of popular shows!–and yet the fandoms are consistently, overwhelmingly saturated with white characters because FANDOMS ARE RACIST, and it’s frankly annoying as hell for you guys to try and blame that exclusively on the creators. own up to that shit.
why does so much of v*v’s humor rely on how much she fucking hates children and wants to murder them. in heckuva bus u got the IMP being 100% fine w maiming and killing a kid (whos like....6?) & it turning into a joke to the point where ppl replied to one of viv’s tweets abt being annoyed by kids with “lol call the IMP kIdS dIe FoR fReE”. also back when her zoophobia blog was still up she answered an ask abt alastor saying he would eat his own children or some shit?
i dont think this is a hot take or a controversial opinion (and if it is shouldnt be??) but if ur humor relies on how funny it is to kill children you are an actual freak
hazbin hotel and helluva boss both seem like cartoons from like. 2007-2012 that were considered funny when they were released and any criticism of them would be met with “but making fun of poc/queer ppl/nd ppl/etc was funny back then!! what else do u expect!!” and the fact that they were both released in 2019 makes it so much worse 🤡
